Wedding videography in Italy
Castello Monaci wedding film
When Sasha and Andrew decided to get married, they knew they wanted to bring their family and friends from Ireland over to the sunny heel of Italy. They chose Castello Monaci, a gorgeous castle in the Puglia region surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, as the backdrop for their celebration.
As a destination wedding videographer, my focus wasn't on staging perfect, unnatural poses. Instead, I wanted to capture the day exactly as it happened, focusing on how they met, who they are as a couple, and the fun, relaxed energy of their friends and family.
This film is built entirely around Sasha and Andrew's journey. Instead of a traditional, chronological wedding video that just shows the day from morning to night, I let their actual story dictate the structure.
They met at work back in Ireland, and their relationship grew steadily over the years. By the time they stood together in the sun at Castello Monaci, it wasn't just about the ceremony itself, it was about celebrating the life they’ve already built together.
As a destination wedding videographer, my goal is to create a film that feels less like a traditional wedding video and more like an honest, cinematic portrait of the day. My approach to filmmaking is about letting the location and your connection tell the story naturally, without forcing it. I don’t treat a wedding like a checklist of standard shots; instead, I look at it through an artistic lens, letting a historic venue like Castello Monaci become a hero character in the film. It’s about capturing two people in love, completely immersed in a unique, beautiful setting, and letting the atmosphere of the place shape the visual style. Rather than staging fake moments, I focused on the genuine energy of the day, using the architecture, the natural light, and the landscape of Puglia to frame Sasha & Andrew’s relationship.
If you are looking for an Italy wedding videographer who values real moments, honest storytelling, and a relaxed day over cheesy poses, I would love to chat.
Their day at Castello Monaci
Puglia is known for its incredible light, and Castello Monaci is one of the most stunning spots in the region. But what made this day special wasn't just the historic castle walls, it was the contrast of a lively Irish crowd taking over a classic Italian venue. To make the day even more meaningful, Sasha’s brother officiated the ceremony. Having someone who knows them so well lead the vows brought an incredibly personal, relaxed, and emotional energy to the heart of the day
The Vibe: Relaxed, fun, and warm. We kept things completely candid. No forced smiles, no awkward retakes, and no interrupting the natural flow of the guest experience.
The Celebration: After the outdoor ceremony, the night moved into a massive celebration under the fairy lights in the courtyard, complete with great local Puglian food, plenty of wine, and a packed dance floor that stayed busy until the early hours of the morning.
The Filmmaking: My approach is to blend in like a guest with a camera. This allows everyone to relax, forget I’m there, and just enjoy the day, which is how I get the most authentic footage.
Under the Puglian stars: The energy of the night
As the heat of the Salento sun mellowed into a warm southern Italian evening, the formal parts of the day gave way to pure, uninhibited celebration. Bringing an energetic Irish crowd to a historic castle in Puglia is a recipe for an unforgettable night, and the courtyard at Castello Monaci became the perfect stage for it. I watched the energy shift as guests filled the stone courtyard under a canopy of bistro lights, the local wine flowing as easily as the laughter.
In their film, these hours are not just a footnote; they are an integral part of the story. My approach is to steer clear of staged, unnatural setups, focusing instead on capturing the raw, spontaneous moments that actually define the night: the hands thrown in the air, the unscripted laughter during the outdoor toasts, and the sheer joy of two families coming together from oceans away. The historic walls of the castle didn't just serve as a backdrop; they felt like a character in the film, holding the electric, unpretentious energy of the night.
Every corner of Puglia holds a distinct, cinematic light, from the ancient olive groves to the dramatic white stone of its masserie and castles. If you are planning a destination wedding in Italy, I would love to help you document it.
I work with couples who want their wedding film to feel less like a checklist of standard shots and more like an honest, artistic portrait of who they are. Let’s create a film that feels entirely like you.
