Holkham Hall wedding film
A wedding film for Megan and Johnnie, filmed at Holkham Hall in Norfolk, from their ceremony in the Marble Hall to a marquee reception in the grounds, with the place that means so much to them at the heart of the film.
Megan and Johnnie met on Hinge in 2022. A few years later, they found themselves getting married at one of the most beautiful stately homes in Norfolk, a place that already held a special meaning for them. Johnnie had proposed to Megan on Holkham Beach, so returning to Holkham for their wedding made the setting about far more than just having a beautiful backdrop.
For them, Norfolk was part of the story. And that was something I wanted the film to reflect.
A wedding at Holkham Hall
Set on the North Norfolk coast near Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham Hall is one of England's most beautiful country houses. Today, Holkham remains a lived-in family home, surrounded by extensive parkland. It's just a stunning place to get married, but what makes it particularly interesting to film is the contrast between the architecture and the landscape around it.
For Megan and Johnnie, their ceremony took place inside the Marble Hall, beneath its enormous domed ceiling. From there, the celebrations moved outside into a marquee in the grounds for drinks, cocktails and the wedding breakfast.
It gave the day a natural sense of movement: from the grandeur of the Hall to the openness of Holkham Park, and from the formal ceremony into a much more relaxed celebration with their friends and family.
Filming Megan & Johnnie's Holkham Hall wedding
When I started thinking about Megan and Johnnie's film, I knew I wanted Holkham itself to feel like part of the story. The day could easily have been filmed simply as a beautiful stately-home wedding: the architecture, the Marble Hall, the grounds, the flowers, the marquee and all the details that make a wedding at Holkham so visually impressive.
But that wouldn't really tell their story. Instead, the film begins with the ceremony. I wanted to establish the scale of the setting first: the architecture, the height of the Marble Hall, and the atmosphere of the room, before gradually bringing the focus back to Megan and Johnnie and what the day actually meant to them.
Because beneath all of that grandeur, this was still a very personal story.
Two people who met on Hinge in 2022. A proposal on the beach at Holkham. An Irish groom marrying the woman he loves. And a place in Norfolk that had already become part of their relationship long before their wedding day.
The film moves between those two sides of the day: the grandeur of Holkham and the intimacy of Megan and Johnnie's story.
A sense of place
One of my favourite things about filming weddings is when the location isn't simply a backdrop, but actually means something to the couple. That was particularly true here. Holkham isn't just a beautiful Norfolk wedding venue for Megan and Johnnie. It's where Johnnie proposed to Megan, on the beach just a short distance from the Hall.
Holkham Beach forms part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve, with the wider estate encompassing parkland, woodland, coastline, saltmarsh and other diverse landscapes. So throughout the film, Norfolk keeps coming back.
Sometimes that's through the images: the grounds, the architecture, the Norfolk landscape and the feeling of the coast. And sometimes it's through what Megan and Johnnie say. Their connection to the place becomes part of the emotional thread running through the film, rather than something that simply appears in the establishing shots.

If you're planning your own wedding at Holkham Hall, I'd love to hear about it.
I'm Joce, a wedding filmmaker based in Manchester, England, and I film weddings across the UK and internationally.
My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive. I'm interested in the atmosphere of the day, the people you're sharing it with and the things that make your wedding yours, rather than turning the day into a photoshoot.
For me, the best wedding films aren't simply a creative record of how everything looked.
